Governor Muhammadu  Inuwa Yahaya has launched the Community Engagement programme of the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) at Malam-Sidi Kwami Local Government of the State.

This was in line with the Governor’s Commitment to ensuring the success of the Scheme in the state.

The Governor while performing the ceremony alongside the BESDA National Team, UBEC officials, UNICEF representatives and committee leaders said that “ BESDA is the Federal Government World funded project with the aim of mopping up Out-of School Children, improving literacy and strengthening the system”.

Speaking further, the Governor said that, the survey which put- off out of school Children in Gombe State as at 2019 at 453,000 and similar situations in some states of the federation prompted the World Bank intention through BESDA in 17 states of the federation.

According to the governor,”the main objectives of the programme is to mop out the school children off the streets yearly by 15 percent, improve literacy level of teachers and students at basic levels, strengthen basic education system and ensure accountability for result”.

He called on Traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders to ensure effective advocacy, sensitization and mobilization in order to ensure the success of the programme and children are enrolled into schools at the appropriate age and continued schooling.

He declared that his administration will not compromise education despite the financial status of the state and competing demands in virtually all the sector saying that no investment can be too high on education.

There were goodwill messages from UBEC, UNICEF and other stakeholders who all commended the bold step and commitment of the Governor to revolutionize education sector in the state.
