Gombe state government restates commitment in fighting poverty among its citizens.
Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi revealed this when he hosted the Financial Inclusion State Steering Committee at the Government House. The SSG however expressed concern in the strategies of the policy.
Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi said given the poor Human Development indices of the country and Gombe in particular, there is need to initiate realistic and implementable strategies to ensure people of the state are moved out of poverty.
Speaking further, he said as Chairman of the State Financial Inclusion Steering Committee, he would work assiduously to ensure that the objectives of the programme are pursuit to the benefit of the people of the state adding that Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya is concern about poverty among the citizenry.
He therefore challenged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other financial institutions to develop deliberate communication strategies that will effectively reached the people at the grass root to ensure their inclusion and participation.
Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi further said for the financial Inclusion drive to be effective In the state, community and traditional leaders as well as faith based organisations must be brought on board too.
The leader of the deligation who is also the Branch Controller of the Central Bank of Nigeria Gombe Alhaji Shehu Goringo said the visit is to brief the SSG who is the Chairman of the committee, he further explained that the Committee was established in 2012 and is aimed at ensuring Financial growth of the people in the state through their engagement in banking activities as well as some central bank facilities among others.
He added that the Committee is also expected to sensitize and mobilize people to participate in the scheme.
Other speakers include Baba Isa and Special Adviser on Budget and Donor Agencies Dr. Ishaku Mohammed, stressed the need for aggressive advocacy to bring on all stakeholders to meet the target.
