Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya was born in Gombe on 9th October 1961 to the family of an accomplished businessman and philanthropist, Alhaji Yahaya Umaru. He graduated from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting.

He is a Fellow of several professional bodies, notable amongst which are the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) and a member of Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (ACITN). Yahaya has attended several development courses, workshops and seminars both within and outside Nigeria.

His several years of working experience transcend both the public and private sector of the Nigerian Economy. He started his career as an Accountant II with the Bauchi State Investment and Property Development (B.S.I.P.D.C) and rapidly rose to become a Principal Accountant. He moved to Nasara Motors Limited as an Administration and Finance Manager with additional responsibility of managing other affiliate companies such as Nasara Agro Industrial Company Limited, Nasara Petroleum Marketing Company Limited and A.Y.U Civil Engineering Limited. He later became the Managing Director of the group for four years.

In 2003, he was appointed to the Gombe State Executive Council under Sen. Muhammadu Danjuma Goje’s administration where he served as Commissioner of Finance and Economic Development. For over seven years he served as commissioner, he was in charge of Budgetary Planning and Financial Controls of the State and was Chairman of the Board of the Gombe State Investment and Property Development Company Limited during the same period. He was also the Chairman of the State Standing Committee on payment of compensation as well as the Chairman of the Wages and Personal Emoluments Review Committee of the State until 2010.

Considering the role he played in laying the foundation for a new Gombe State when he served as the Commissioner of Finance and Economic Development from 2003 to 2010, he was elected by overwhelming majority as the 4th Civilian Governor of Gombe State on May 29, 2020. Since then, Governor Inuwa has carried on with the task of building a better Gombe with uncommon zeal. In just one year in office, his achievements so far have earned him commendations from within and outside the country.

Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya is a foundation member of All Progressives Congress (APC) and the party’s flag bearer in the 2015 and 2019 Governorship elections in Gombe state.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya is happily married to two wives and blessed with seven children.

Manassah Daniel Jatau (Ph.D)

His Excellency, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau was born on 29th December 1955 in Putoki, Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe State. He started his educational pursuit at Putoki Primary School from 1963 to 1964 and, later, Gelengu Senior Primary School from 1965 to 1969. He proceeded to Government Science Secondary School, Billiri from 1970-1974 and after to the North-East College of Arts and Science (NECAS), Maiduguri from 1974-1976 where he obtained West Africa School Certificate (WASC) and IJMB Certificate, respectively. He gained admission into the University of Maiduguri in 1976 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Degree) in Sociology in 1979. He returned to the university of Maiduguri in 1986 for his postgraduate studies, where he obtained an MSc. in Sociology with specialisation in the Sociology of Complex Organisations in 1988. His insatiable demand for knowledge again took him to the Bayero University Kano where he bagged a Ph.D. in the Sociology of Organisations in 1999. He also attended several capacity-building conferences, workshops, and seminars within and outside Nigeria.

After the mandatory one-year National Youth Service at the Nigerian Army’s Institute of Army Education in 1979/80, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau started work as an Assistant Superintendent of Customs with the Nigerian Customs Service in 1981. He served in various Area Commands in different capacities and performed several ad hoc duties while in active service. He rose through the ranks to become the Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs (DCG) in 2010. He was at different times Area Comptroller of Customs, Federal Capital Territory; Area Comptroller Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara Area Command; Area Comptroller Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Area Command; Assistant Comptroller General of Customs, Human Resources and Development Department; and later Deputy Comptroller General of Customs in charge of Modernisation, Research and Economic Relations Department. He Voluntarily retired from the services of Nigerian Customs in January 2004.

An astute administrator and prolific academic, Dr. Jatau Manassah Daniel has published his research in several academic journals and in book forms.

Some of his notable publications include: –

  2. An Analysis of Factors Associated with the Extent Effectiveness in Organizations: A Case study of Nigerian Customs Service (1985-1995)
  3. Sociology of Medical Practice (1992)

 

His paper presentations at seminars, workshops and conferences include: –

  1. Combating Smuggling ‘The Nigerian Customs Service Experience’, delivered at The Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano in 2001.
  2. Arresting the Socio-Economic retrogression of the Waja people of Gombe State of Nigeria, presented at the Waja day celebration at the cultural centre, Garki, Abuja in 2003.
  3. Nigerian Boarder Security Management: The Perspective of the Nigeria Customs Service, presented to the participants of the 2nd course at the Nigeria Immigration Service Command and Staff College, Sokoto in 2004.
  4. Towards Greater Effectiveness in the Nigeria Customs Service, A critical Theorist Perspective, presented at the Comptroller General of Customs Annual Conference in Calabar in 2004.

Until his recent election to the office of the Deputy Governor, Gombe State, Dr Jatau was a Senior Lecture with Bingham University Karu, Nasarawa state. He is happily married and blessed with children. His hobbies include Reading; Tourism; and Orchard farming.

Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi is an erudite academic and former university administrator. As the SSG of Gombe State, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, is the principal officer responsible for the implementation of Government’s decisions, policies and programmes. He also oversees the operations of all ministries, agencies and parastatals in the State. Born on January 13th, 1959 at Kaltungo Local Government Area of Gombe State, Prof. Njodi attended L.E.A. Primary School, Kaltungo, from 1967 to 1973 and later, ECWA Primary School Kaltungo from 1973 to 1975.  He proceeded to Government Teachers’ College, Jama’are, in Bauchi State from 1975 to 1980.  He also studied at the University of Maiduguri from 1981 to 1985, where he obtained B.Sc. Physical and Health Education. He joined the services of the University of Maiduguri as a Graduate Assistant in 1987 and later proceeded for his Master’s Degree from 1988 to 1991 in the same University, specializing in Health Education.   In 2003, he obtained a Ph.D in Public Health Education from the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Alhaji Abubakar Inuwa kari

The Chief of Staff, Abubakar Inuwa Kari is an indigene of Nafada Local Government Area in Gombe State. An Ivy League Institutions-trained finance and management specialist, Kari has over 25 years post-qualification work experience and a phenomenal track record in the Financial Services Industry, Public and Private Sectors as well as in the political scene.

He began his distinguished career with Afribank Nigeria Plc. (new Skye Bank Plc.) and was part of the team that turned the Afribank Group into “Nigeria’s Foremost Financial Services Group” providing comprehensive quality banking and financial services. Kari has participated in several turn around programmes for a vast array of insurance and allied financial concerns, serving as a key member of the Afribank Committee on the review of the 4th Strategic Plan and the formation of the 5th Strategic Plan for the Afribank Group. He also has served in various capacities between 1990 and 2005 at the Corporate Headquarters in Lagos, Kano, Kaduna and Abuja Regional Offices.

Eventually, Abubakar Kari left the services of Afribank as Regional Manager (North) to take up an appointment with the Federal Government where he was appointed Special Adviser to the Minister of Inter-governmental Affairs, Youth Development and Special Duties before leaving public service in 2007. He joined a team of distinguished Nigerians for the formation of the “Action Congress (AC)” political and was elected the Deputy National Organizing Secretary of the Party. In 2009, the Action Congress (AC) was renamed “Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)” and he was subsequently elected National Organizing Secretary of the Party, making him a key member of the team of opposition parties that began the merger talks that gave birth to the formation of the now widely-favoured “All Progressives Congress (APC)”. He was later appointed the National Director of Organization of the Party and served in the Election Planning, Policy and Strategy, Contact and Mobilization Committees of the Party in the run up to the 2015 General Elections.

Abubakar Kari has investments in various companies in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Commodity Trading and Management Consultancy. He has travelled extensively attending several local and international management courses, seminars and workshops, consistently nominated to represent Nigeria as part of the Federal Government’s delegation to several Conferences, Seminars and Bi-lateral Meetings.

Kari is graciously married with four daughters. He serves as a Director on the Board of Nigeria Customs Service as well as National Director of Organization of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In his present role, Kari is the chief counsel and advisor to the Government. His responsibilities include providing strategic leadership and direction to all officials of the executive branch in the State as well as ensuring the timely and effective implementation of the Governor’s administrative and political agenda.

Aishatu Umar Maigari was born on 26th July, 1976 and started her primary education at Saad Zungur Primary School Bauchi in 1981. She then proceeded to Federal Government Girls’ College, Bauchi where she obtained her secondary school certificate in 1993. She then proceeded to Bayero University Kano and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry with second class upper honours.  She also had her MSc Analytical Chemistry from the same University in 2007 and a Ph.D in Analytical Chemistry in 2016 from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.  Aishatu also has a Technical Teachers Certificate and a certificate in General computing from Federal College of Education (Tech.), Gombe.

Aishatu started work with the Gombe State Government in 2000 as an Education Officer posted to Government Girls College Doma as a Chemistry Teacher. She then moved on to the Federal College of Education (Teschnical), Gombe in 2003 as an Assistant Lecturer where she rose through the ranks to become a Chief Lecturer in 2017. She has held several administrative positions from project Coordinator to Head of Department, Secretary of Research and Development Committee, UNICEF DESK officer/FTTSS coordinator etc. Dr Aishatu then moved to Gombe State University, Gombe as a Senior Lecturer in 2017 in her quest to contribute her quota to the Education Sector. In GSU, she was a member of the research committee, departmental promotion committee and the Departmental examination Officer. In 2019, she was appointed a Reader in Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State.

Dr. Aishatu was appointed a Honourable Commissioner of Science, technology and Innovation by the Gombe State Governor on 7th November, 2019. She served for three years before her redeployment to the Ministry of Education. In March 2023, she was given the mandate to oversee the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation in addition to the Ministry of Education.

On his reelection in 2023, His Excellency found her worthy to be reappointed as an Honourable Commissioner and posted back to the Ministry of Education, Gombe State where she continues to supervise policies, implementation and delivering of the Governor’s promises to the good people of Gombe State. Dr. Aishatu has served in several government committees such as the MSME clinic in Gombe, GoInvest 2022, mega colleges committee, Committee on Colleges of Health Science and Technology in Gombe, White Paper drafting committee on visitation panels to tertiary Institutions etc.

Dr. Aishatu is the first child of 17 siblings, a wife and a mother to three sons and a daughter. She has over 35 publications in national and international journals of repute, enjoys research and writing, still lectures and supervises both undergraduate and Post graduate students. Dr. Aishatu is an adjunct Professor at Pen Resource University, Gombe.

Hon. Asma'u Mohammed Iganus

Hon. Asma’u Mohammed Iganus is a seasoned politician, accountant, administrator and humanitarian worker. Born on 21 August 1977, Hon. Iganus was educated at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, and the National Open University of Nigeria. Before being appointed by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya as the Honourable Commissioner of Women Development, Hon Iganus served as Member of the Gombe State House of Assembly (2019-2023). In addition to that, she has held a number of positions in the state government, including Hon. Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development (2011-2014), Hon. Commissioner of Science and Solid Mineral Development (2014-2015), and Senior Special Assistant to His Excellency Governor of Gombe State (2005-2006).

Besides her political career, Hon Iganus is a humanitarian activist who has founded five non-governmental organizations to enhance the empowerment of rural women, promote entrepreneurship, and encourage self-reliance among youth and women in the State.

Engr. Dr Usman Maijama’a Kallamu was born on January 16th, 1964. A native of Kwami LGA, Gombe State, the Hon. Commissioner is a certified engineer, educator, and administrator. He is a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from Kaduna Polytechnic. He holds a master’s degree in engineering from the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi. Additionally, he holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Engineering, specializing in Renewable Energy from the University of Agriculture Makurdi. He attended the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru Jos, for a course on policy, strategy and leadership. A practicing engineer, he is a member of COREN and also a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, among many other professional associations.

During his distinguished career in public service, he has held numerous academic and administrative positions, including that of Rector, Dean, and Head of the Engineering Department of the Federal Polytechnic Damaturu in Yobe State. Additionally, he served as Chairman of the Governing Council of the College of Education, Billiri. Dr. Usman Kallamu was also a Senior Special Assistant to His Excellency, the Governor of Gombe State.
