Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe State has flagged off the sales of fertilizer for the 2018 farming season to farmers at N5, 900  for NPK and N4,900 for Urea.
He said since the inception of his administration in 2011, over 160, 000 metric tons of fertilizer were procured and sold to farmers at subsidized rate to improve productivity.

Dankwambo added that his administrator has procured 10, 000 metric tons of Urea with substantial quantity of NPK 20-10-10 from the Presidential Special Fertilizer Intervention Programme. He added that the state government has entered into partnership with AFCOTT Nigeria Limited for blending of NPK 20-10-10 at the Gombe Blending Plant.

The governor also said his administration has procured and sold 40 metric tons of improved maize seed at subsidized rate to the farmers.

He assured the commitment of his administration to ensure that the fertilizer procured reaches the grassroots.

Earlier in his welcome address the Commissioner for Agriculture Gombe State (Alh. Dahiru Buba Biri) thanks most sincerely the State Governor on behalf of the teaming population of farmers in Gombe state for the steps taken to ensure that fertilizer and improved seeds are distributed at the very early part of the rainy season. And also urge farmers to:

  • Report promptly if they notice any pest in their farms to enable prompt advice, guidance and control measures.
  • Continue to repay any facility given by government or banks.

Also delivering a goodwill address, the State Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Dr. Musa Mohammed Inuwa) having applauded the gesture of Gombe State Government under the able leadership of governor Dankwambo, he says ‘’ to compliment his Excellency’s effort towards boosting food production in Gombe State and Nigeria at large, the Honorable Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Chief Audu Innocent Ogbe OFR has also approved the release and sales of essential Herbicides, Insecticides, Pesticides, Fungicides and Agricultural Equipment’s (Multi-purpose Threshers, Power Tillers, Groundnut Threshers, Milling Machines, Sprayers, Water Pumps etc) for sale to farmers at affordable prices. Sales of these inputs is now ongoing at all federal ministries of agriculture and rural development offices nationally”

The resultant effort of all government interventions has led to a significant increase in Food Production, Wealth Creation and Poverty Reduction among the citizenry.
