Worried by the decay of facilities and the general condition of health institutions in Gombe, Alh. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo’s administration awarded contract for the construction of a new ultra modern women and children hospital in Gombe. The hospital was hitherto known as the Gombe Town Maternity Hospital, Idi, Gombe and now up graded and expanded with modern facilities to carter for only women and children health care services. The old town maternity was completely demolished to pave way for a new construction.

The hospital which is now completed was well equipped with facilities such as incubator, Digital x-ray and scanning machines, heater for children with loss of temperature, dental clinic, twin and dinning theatre among others.
The state government had also made funds available for the fumigation of the hospital in order to get rid of termites and other insects.

The state commissioner of health Dr. Ishaya Kennedy disclosed that 58 unskilled workers were already employed while nurses from other hospitals in the state were deployed in addition to the employment of more consultants.
