The All Progressive congress APC has taken over Gombe State with the new governor Alhaji Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya vowing to confront head-on issues bedeviling of the state.
Governor Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya was sworn-in amidst fanfare by party supporters, friends and well wishers at the Pantami Stadium Gombe Wednesday May 29th 2019 by the State Chief Judge, Justice Hakila Heman, he was sworn – in along his Deputy Manassah Daniel Jatau.
In his median inaugural address, Alhaji Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya said that, his administration would overhaul the education sector to meet up the desired standard. He said that adequate attention will be given to the provision of infrastructure, teaching materials and qualified teaching staff in both primary, secondary and tertiary institution.
Speaking further, the governor said “The recent and unpatriotic proliferation of tertiary Institutions in the state requires critical assessment of their viability and sustainability vis – a vis the huge debt over-hung worth 110 Billion Naira, “therefore, we shall constitute a high pioneered Committee to critically review the level of establishment of the institutions within the intent of assessing their potentials and relevance to our state educational development”.
Inuwa Yahaya who decries the pitiable condition of the state health sector, promise that very soon, his administration would commence building of additional health care institutions, provision of medical facilities, equipment and retraining of health care personnel for better health care delivery service in the state.
On the perennial shortage of water supply in Gombe metropolis and other parts of the state, the governor said that, his administration would work hard to increase the capacity of the dadin-kowa water supply scheme and enhance supply to other Local Governments Areas across the state adding that, he will exploits full potentials of Balanga Dam as regards to water supply, power generation and irrigation activities during his tenure.
“In the meantime, the water board is hereby directed to ensure that water is pumped and supplied to Gombe metropolis and all connected surrounding communities on daily basis”.
Governor Yahaya who expressed concerned over the last minute massive employment into the state and Local Government, award of contracts and massive disposals of government properties as well as allocation and sales of plots to crowning of the past administration, assured that, steps would be taken to address all irregularities.
According to the governor “Perpetrators and illegal beneficiaries will be held to account. In the meantime, All appointments, contractors and allocation made or entered into by the state and Local councils from 10th day of March 2019 to date is hereby suspended”, he added.
While expressing his displeasure with the attitude of the past administration for failing and refusing his team the desired cooporation diving the transition process, he however said that, the arrogant behavior was becoming for an administration that was supposed to serve the people.
“Our transition committee sought for interaction with the then government officials it was refused. They sought for relevant documents they were denied. The Committee had to rely on other source of information for its reports. Upon receipt of hand-over form out gone administration, we shall dig to find out the accuracy of their contents”. He added.
In a related development, Governor Inuwa Yahaya had shortly after his inauguration receives the mantle of Leadership of Gombe State for the next four years from Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo represented by his Deputy Charles Iliya.
In a brief ceremony at the Executive Council Chamber of the Government House, Governor Yahaya, said, he will go through the handing over notes and do justice to the report.
He assured the good people of Gombe state of his readiness to take Gombe state the next level.
The innauguration and hand over ceremonies was attended by the Former Governor and serving Senator Mohammed Danjuma Goje, Former Ministers, Traditional rulers, party faithful’s and well wishers.
