Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe State has assured retirees in the state that the government would soon commence the payment of their accumulated gratuities.
Represented by his deputy, Honourable Charles Iliya, yesterday during the occasion marking the 2016 International Workers Day, the governor said the committee set up by government to verify the outstanding amounts has completed its assignment.
“I am happy to announce that the committee has concluded their assignment, and the reports are being studied by government and recommendations will be appropriately implemented,”he said .
On the issues of the biometric data capture, revenue generation, payment of gratuity of retirees as well as the issue of contributory pensions scheme, he said government viewed them with great importance and shall continue to work in partnership with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC) in the resolution and implementation of all pertinent issues in the best interest of the state and the civil servants.
In his address, the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Haruna Kamara, called on the government to make the settlement of gratuity to retirees in the state a top priority since monthly pension and gratuity remains the last hope of the workers.
He also urged the government to direct immediate commencement of biometric data capture of all civil servants in the state, put in place a mechanism for the monitoring of revenue collection and enforcement as well as address the issue of contributory pension scheme.
